Happy New Year!

Posted by Bob James on December 31, 2010 in Artist Management, Bob James, Emma Stevens, Ronit, Rubylux

What an eventful 2010! A really busy year, with no time to even update this blog but loads of other goals have been achieved. Rubylux secured Icebreaker investment to release their debut album ”Fake Control” .

A publishing deal with BMG Rights Management was also secured and signed. Overseas trips included Singapore, Australia, Germany, Norway, Vietnam and France.

I became an associate lecturer at The University of Surrey and a Business School tutor at ACM in Guildford teaching HDip and Degree Music industry courses.

Emma Stevens went on writing trips to LA and Germany and achieved platinum sales in Asia with a song she wrote with Will Simms.

Bob James Management Services signed an amazing talent for management, Ronit Granot, based currently in Australia and moving to the UK in February, she is one to watch out for…

Some amazing contacts made and some real hard work setting up projects that will hopefully come to fruition in 2011, next year is definitely a year to look forward to….

With two or three more acts to add to the roster next year, an expansion in the BJMS team and a couple of deals to be signed in the first quarter, bring on 2011!! …..

This post was done via a mobile app on an iPad…. Technology is ever changing!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!

The four tenets of sponsorship as used by Converse, who do a lot of work in the music world:

  1. Own not rent.
  2. Create IP – go beyond the event
  3. Big ideas that travel
  4. Be useful

The blizzard of noise (and the good news)

Posted by Bob James on August 27, 2010 in Uncategorized

As the amount of inputs go up, as the number of people and ideas that clamor for attention continue to increase, we do what people always do: we rely on the familiar, the trusted and the personal.

The experience I have with you as a customer or a friend is far more important than a few random bits flying by on the screen. The incredible surplus of digital data means that human actions, generosity and sacrifice are more important than they ever were before.

Where does the time go?

Posted by Bob James on August 4, 2010 in Artist Management, Bob James, Rubylux

When I started this blog I had every intention of blogging on a daily basis and passing on some of the knowledge and experiences picked up along the way in my rather long Music Industry Career. Instead my day to day role as manager has escalated to running a record label and co-ordinating a full blown promotion and marketing campaign over 5 Countries.

With Rubylux we are on a role! Building friends and supporters at Radio, awareness online (Just Google Rubylux to see how much!), touring Asia, Australia and all over the UK via the band unique Street Gig approach, even TV is getting ready to jump in alongside some great National Press articles due in the Autumn…

All of this takes time and as we build up for our campaign to extend to Germany I will have less time to update the blog…. So why don’t you check out http://rubylux.net and keep up to date with what is going on there… Maybe buy the album? I can assure you it is great!

The album was a new entry at Number 16 on the iTunes Alternative chart on the day of release, which is a great start. Lots of Radio and TV Stuff coming up, plus Live dates around the Country.

The Gig at The Old Market was a complete sell out – just goes to show that this band are now at the stage of selling out Theatre shows. Looking forward to more gigs like this! Make sure you Pre-Order a copy of the Live DVD it”s looking amazing!

Simple five step plan for just about everyone and everything – Courtesy of Seth Godin

Posted by Bob James on May 25, 2010 in Tribal Marketing

The number of people you need to ask for permission keeps going down:

1. Go, make something happen.

2. Do work you’re proud of.

3. Treat people with respect.

4. Make big promises and keep them.

5. Ship it out the door.

When in doubt, see #1.
